The Role of Technology in Motorcycle Tyre

Tire Identification Number (TIN):

The TIN indicates when, where, and by whom the tyre was made. For example:

 

        DOT 4B08 4DHR 2910

        DOT - marks it as a certified tyre.

        4B - identifies the plant where the tyre was manufactured.

        08 - is the tyre size.

        4DHR - is the manufacturer’s code.

        2910 - shows the tyre was made in the 29th week of 2010.

 

Tire Size Code:

Example: 180/55R17

 

        180: Tire width in millimeters.

        55: Aspect ratio, the sidewall height as a percentage of the width.

        R: Radial construction.

        17: Rim diameter in inches.

 

Load and Speed Rating:

Example: 180/55R17 (73W)

 

        73: Load index, showing it can hold up to 805 lbs (365 kg).

        W: Speed rating, indicating a maximum speed of 168 mph (270 km/h).
